Evaluation of Prelim

1. the process undergone to create the prelim
Before getting anywhere near the cameras for our prelim, we had to go through various stages to come up with a basic idea of how we was going to film various shots and where our location was going to be. To begin with, i made a brainstormof all the possible genres i do such as romance, comdey, and crime. Following the brainstorm i started by making a storyboard. In the storyboard, you sketch an outline of the character or surroundings in the shot and briefly describe how long it's going to be there for. This is known as the Average shot duration. The time taken in each shot. After making the storyboard i made a script. In the script i wrote down all the dialogue each character uses, where they have to be on set and how long for.

2. creative decisions
In our filming we used a fair bit of creative shooting. Some of this came through finalising of the shots. During our filming period, our group ended up adding lots of shots that we did not have in our storyboard. We did this because we thought it would make our piece better. It made our piece better because we had different shots and different angles. Another bit of creativity is in editing, and how we put it together. We used various techniques between some shots to add an affect to the outcome of the film. This was creative because it looked really good. Adding sounds to the film was another way of making our piece creative. We added a sound as Fran opened the door. This had a good effect. Also unplanned, we added kenny to our film because we thought it would be better, and this too had a big effect on our piece of filming.

3. evaluation of prelim
our prelim is not bad considering we have never edited or shot a film before. We used the shoulder shot well, the 180 rule was wicked and the use of tansitions and special effects were used really well too. of course it could be better. It could be better if we varied the shots we filmed. For example, shot more establishing shots. In some shots we could have gave our characters more head room, because in the filming we didn't give them as much head room as we should have. Also, the continuenty wasn't the greatest, because in two different shots Joe had different body language. In one shot he had his arms in the air and the next shot his arms were folded. This will be improved in our final piece of filming because we will have someone checking for continuenty.

4. what will be done differently
On our final filming, as i said in the paragraph above we need to work on continuenty and make sure thats right so the filming looks realistic, and doesn't look odd. Another thing is actually thinking about whether the film is really interesting, and makes the audience want to continue watching the film. Next time we will make sure the characters have head room in the shots. We will make sure that the genre and the setting is right for a film.

5. development of new skills
I have developed lots of skills while in the process of filming my prelim. I have learned how to edit a film, how different shots are filmed, how long it takes to film and edit, how not to break the 180 rule and developed how to be a director. The editing of a film is fun, because you can put all the shots together, move shots around, add sounds and music and just finalise all the efforts that was put into making the film.
